Solar Panels
Solar panels for driveway gate openers are available in various wattages. The wattage is determined by the gate operator and the location. In general, you will save money if the opener draws less current requiring a smaller solar panel. The LiftMaster Robo series, Apollo, and US Automatic solar gate operators have low current draws. If the solar gate is in an area that has long overcast periods you should consider adding larger or extra batteries. A charging controller should be used on solar panels larger than 10 watts. Solar System Federal Tax Credit
The Federal Tax Credit for Installation of Solar Systems is equal to 30% off the total installed cost of the solar operator system. This only applies to the automation, not to the cost of physical gate itself or its installation. The property must be located in the United States and be used as a residence by the taxpayer.
