Photo Eyes

Photo eyes are typically used on driveway gates as a safety device. They are used to prevent a gate from closing on a vehicle in its path. They are also used to prevent a gate closing on a person who may be between the gate and a fence or wall. This is known as an entrapment zone. Photo eyes come in two styles. Through beam is a 2 piece unit, and has a transmitter and a receiver. Retro-reflective units have the transmitter and receiver in one unit and bounce the beam back from a reflector.
