Anatomy Of A Gate
Illustrated View and Anatomical Cross-Section of a Gate With Columns
This gate illustration shows how we build gates. Building a driveway gate with columns requires care installing the footings and internal skeletons. The column footing and imbedded skeleton determine the quality of the finished project. A level transit should be used to set the posts and heavy bracing used to secure positions before pouring concrete. It is prudent to place a grade beam between footing when making a bi-parting gate. Most columns will settle after a few years or sooner and the gates will no longer line up. Lighting junction boxes can be pre-installed on skeleton. It is also a good idea to install conduit in the column for an external antenna for the radio remote.
