These proximity card readers output the card data to the access controller (1833, 1835, 1837, or 1838) where the decision to grant or deny access is made. Ideal for both pedestrian and vehicular access control. Proximity cards transmit their information to the card reader without any physical contact. This provides an easy to use vandal resistant system. Access is granted when a valid card is presented to the card reader.

Because the dimensions of the various card readers vary with the reader make and read distance, as a general rule of thumb, they longer the read distance, the larger the card reader.

• Physical contact not required.
• Proximity cards can transmit data through common building materials except metal.
• Maintenance free-No parts to wear out or adjust
• Passive cards do not have a battery and provide an unlimited number of "card reads" . Last a very long time unless abused.
• Active cards have a battery (2-year approximate life) providing a longer read range but require replacing at the end of the battery's life.
